    College Now Greater Cleveland is seeking instructors for their Upward Bound summer program.  The program is 5-weeks long, starting July 1 and ending August 2.  They are hoping to recruit instructors for English, Science, & Foreign Language courses.  You can find the Statement of Work HERE.  Qualified interested candidates should contact Victor at vcourtney@collegenowgc.org.  

    The City of Cleveland is hiring for a number of part time and full time seasonal jobs this summer. 

    Playdirectors - Camp Forbes, Camp Counselors. Seasonal:  $191.40/daily

    Min. Qualification: NA
    TYPICAL TASKS:  Remain on the premises from Monday 7am thru Friday 4pm (Overnight). Supervise and provide positive leadership in cabins(model appropriate behavior). Teach children how to live independently and work as a team. Supervise and interact with children during all activities. Teach fishing, boating, arts & crafts, dancing, survival skills, teamwork, tent assembly, camp songs, outdoor/indoor games, and more. Sleep-out at campground in tent, maintain fire circle, help prepare campfire snacks. Make sure that children are appropriately dressed for various activities. Enforce all camp rules. Make sure campers receive medication on schedule as needed. Make sure campers abide by food restrictions stated by parent/guardian. Report campers who do not have adequate camping supplies (i.e. clothing, footwear, hygiene products, etc.). Handle disciplinary matters and report decisions to Supervisory Counselors. Assist activity leader and lead small and large group activities. Conduct a variety of creative, age-appropriate outdoor/indoor games. Complete Incident/Accident Reports as they occur and follow up with parent as needed. Review all safety procedures with campers (i.e. mock fire drills, camp-fire safety, intruders, lost camper, etc.). Abide by all safety rules and regulations during all activities. Ensure campers are following good hygiene and safety habits. Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served. Interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations. Use positive behavior-management techniques - enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.  Maintain professional conduct with co-workers at all times. Be creative! Create moments to remember for you and campers!

    Playdirectors - playgrounds: fulltime, season: $15.95/hour

    Min. Qualification: NA
    Under supervision, has charge of the organization and direction of recreational activities of a playground or play center. Performs related duties as required.
    TYPICAL TASKS: Organizes and directs play and planned activities at a playground or play center. Organizes activities and gives instruction in group games, such as playground ball, volley ball, tennis, and other group or team games. Organizes and conducts field meets, sport days, and other special and festival events on the playground in connection with city-wide programs. Marks and lays out playing fields for various games and events. Supervises the issuance, setting-out, use, collection, storing, and maintaining of equipment and apparatus. Maintains order within the playground or center. Discourages gambling, profanity, and rowdiness on the playground. Encourages participation in recreation activities. Conducts special classes or assists staff instructors in handicrafts, dancing, story-telling, dramatics, music, nature study, and other special activities. Attends staff meetings. Administers first aid. Consults with supervisors, assistants, and co-workers concerning the work of the playground. Keeps records. Makes routine and special reports. Supervises the work of play leaders or other assistants.

    Lifeguards: fulltime, season: $15.95/hour

    Min. Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED is required. The equivalent of two summers of experience in outdoor and indoor pools in a municipal setting is required. Must possess current certifications for American Red Cross Lifeguarding Training and First Aid as well as CPR for the Professional Rescuer. Must have a valid Government ID - State of Ohio Driver's License or State ID.  (The Diploma or GED as well as the Driver's License are not required for those persons under the age of 18 who are hired as Seasonal Lifeguards.)
    TYPICAL TASKS: Monitors swimmers. Provides emergency assistance when needed. Cleans and maintains the pool and pool area which includes the filtration system. Assists in the patrolling and supervising of swimming activities at public pools and beaches.  Rescues persons who are in danger of drowning. Acts as general lookout at assigned stations. Administers first aid to persons in emergency situations arising under a lifeguard's jurisdiction.

    Lifeguard Capt.: fulltime, season. $15.95/hour

     Min. Qualifications: A High School Diploma or GED is required. The equivalent of two summers of experience in outdoor and indoor pools in a municipal setting is required.     TYPICAL TASKS: Conducts group and individual swimming lessons. Assists in conducting swimming meets and special aquatic programs. Removes debris and other physical hazards from beach and swimming areas. Ropes off swimming areas. Posts storm warnings to swimmers. Attends institutes, special lectures, and staff meetings. Reports accidents. Makes reports and keeps records when necessary. Supervises, maintains, and uses life saving equipment. Assists in finding, restoring or reporting lost articles. Deals with large numbers of people and the problems arising at beaches and pools. Performs such other tasks as may be assigned.  Ensure the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies in variety of settings.  Administer First Aid/CPR/AED in cases of emergency. Adhere to aquatic as well as City of Cleveland rules and regulations as related to the functional areas of Responsibility. Inspects aquatic area(s) in order to ensure appropriate levels of cleanliness are observed.  Maintain and review a variety of aquatic records, reports, and statistics weekly. Supervise and coordinate all aquatic lifeguard staff. Perform all required duties in a timely manner. Responsible for maintenance of pool filtration system and cleaning as applicable. Prepare in-service training for lifeguard staff of Red Cross skill requirements. Responsible maintaining proper levels of pool water chemistry. Assist with closing and opening procedure at pool facilities. Work hours are Monday – Friday (indoor)/Wednesday-Sunday (outdoor). Maintain current certification for Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid/AED.

    Park Maintenance Aide: Fulltime, season. $15.95/hour

    Min. Qualification: NA
    TYPICAL TASKS:  Under supervision, assists in maintaining areas under the jurisdiction of the Division of Parks Maintenance and Properties.  Cuts and trims grass. Collects and removes rubbish and other debris. Collects and removes branches and other underbrush. Assists in maintaining athletic fields. Performs other job-related duties as required.  Spray Basins: under supervision, turn on city spray basins located in various city parks. Before turning on water clean thedrain located on the spray pad, inspect the valve cover and water fountain for any defects. Clean all trash and debris from the area surrounding the spray basin. Locate the correct water key for the corresponding valve and turn on the water system. Check water psi and flow for safety. At the end of the shift, turn off water at all spray parks. Record all necessary information concerning spray basin operation in your logbook.

    Park Maintenance Aide Coordinator: Fulltime, seasonal. $15.95/hour

    Min. Qualification: NA
    TYPICAL TASKS:  At Collinwood Sports Complex: Under supervision, set-up and maintain all equipment used on-site. For the following activities: Football, Track & Soccer. For football: before any games begin: set up yard line markers, goal post padding & team area sidelines.  Operate scoreboard for high school & youth football games as needed. For track: before the meet begins, set up the following: long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, pole vault, and all other track and field activities.  For soccer: before games begin, set up soccer goals and team area sidelines. Immediately after games end, clean & maintain all locker rooms, bathrooms, outdoor bleachers & the press box. Pick up and remove all trash and debris including along the fence and in the parking lots. Cut grass in all areas using a weed eater, push mower & super Z-cutter. At closing time, secure the complex by checking the following: all doors, gates, locks, and by activating the security system. At League Park, under supervision, before any game begins, set-up the field of play, check pitcher’s rubber, home plate and all base pads to ensure level playing surfaces. Add turf rubber pellets so that playing surfaces are at the proper height. After game ends, clean and maintain all bathrooms, Visitor Center and outdoor bleachers. Pick-up and remove trash and debris from the entire complex including along all fence areas of the park. Cut grass in all non-synthetic turf areas using a weed eater and push mower. Secure the complex by checking the following: all doors, gates and locks, and by activating the security system.
